There are lots of brands of organic and natural cosmetics on the market, so consumers are demanding certifications that ensure the origin and composition of the products they use. Discover all about Certified Organic Cosmetics with OLAND.

Nevertheless, unlike food, organic and natural cosmetics have neither a common and official definition nor regulation, so there are private entities that promote different certifications.

In general, we think that if we see one of these certifications on the folding boxes of the products, they are organic cosmetics, but in reality, the certifying entities usually offer different categories depending on the amount of certified organic ingredients included in the product.

The most normal classification is the following one:

  • Certified natural cosmetics: Contains natural ingredients, but no organic ingredients.
  • Certified natural cosmetics with a certain percentage of organic ingredients: Contains natural and organic ingredients (in smaller proportion).
  • Certified organic cosmetics: Contains mainly organic ingredients.

The main difference between the certifications is the criteria used to classify the products in one category or another according to the amount of natural or organic ingredients they contain.

We can see that many brands talk about certified organic cosmetics, but it is important to know which private entity is behind this certification.

Currently, there are more than 30 certifying entities worldwide, which means a great disparity of seals.

OLAND is certified by NATRUE, one of the most demanding and recognized certifying entities worldwide. NATRUE is an international non-profit association committed to the promotion and protection of Natural and Organic Cosmetics. With OLAND you can discover all about Certified Organic Cosmetics.

All OLAND products are certified as organic cosmetics, which means that they contain more than 95% of ingredients that come from organic farming.

NATRUE’s criteria for organic cosmetics is one of the most demanding and difficult to achieve. Compared to other major certifying entities, a beauty product is normally certified as organic if 95% of vegetal ingredients it contains are organic, but it is enough if these vegetal ingredients are at least 20% of the total formula.

However, NATRUE certifies a beauty product as CERTIFIED ORGANIC COSMETIC only if 95% of the natural or naturally derived substances present are organic.

Thus, NATRUE requires that 95% of the ingredients in the total formula are organic, that’s why all OLAND products have organic fruit waters, which guarantee total compatibility and affinity with your skin.

In addition, at least 75% of the brand’s products must meet NATRUE’s Standard to be certified. NATRUE demands a high level of commitment and does not allow to certify only isolated products, as this would contribute to confuse consumers.

This standard establishes a high level of transparency and commitment that helps to combat greenwashing, unlike other certifying entities.

In conclusion, it is important to use certified organic cosmetics made from ingredients that have been obtained and processed in an environmentally friendly way. Also, it is essential to know what is behind each certification, since not all areas demanding as they seem.

At OLAND we are proud to say that all our products are NATRUE CERTIFIED ORGANIC COSMETICS.
